SOCIAL STUDIES

Today we started the South Region!

We had a great conversation about the Mason-Dixon Line/Boarder.

We learned who created the boarder: Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon. They were two land surveyors that helped resolve a boarder dispute between Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Therefore, we learned that Delaware is part of the north and Maryland is part of the south. We will use these two states are bonus on our next test! Along with the information we learned about Mason and Dixon.

READING

Today's lesson was a fun lesson about Figurative Language! We discussed how the students may have heard interesting phrases that can not be taken literally or exactly how the words are written and their meanings.

We learned how the figurative phrases are used to describe parts of the story or poem in a more creative way.  Today we looked at idioms, personifications, and some metaphors and similes. Tomorrows lesson will be on similes and metaphors in our reading and writing.

WRITING/LANGUAGE ARTS

We started with our Language Starters.

Then we focused on making corrections on our paragraphs we wrote about Frindle  Students were asked to make changes and in some cases rewrite their paragraphs to make improvements and adjustments to their writing.
